While mold is something that can be good (such as mold in blue cheese), generally speaking having mold around is bad, particularly when it comes to mold at home. But what can you do when you’re plagued by mold spores, how can you get rid of it?
Mold is a spore that easily multiplies in an ambient of moisture and any organic material, such as various foods. So when you have a bit of mold, you can be sure that this small problem will soon increase exponentially. The reason why mold is such a big problem is because breathing in mold spores can be quite dangerous to your health. But figuring out whether you have it at home can be quite tricky at times.
One way to notice it is by checking various tight nooks and cranes in your basement, bathroom or other rooms that are prone to humidity. When you see it, it looks like a thin black or white powder coating growing in circular rings. If you notice anything like that, you can ask a mold expert to take a few samples for analysis. They can read the levels of mold in the sample and will let you know right away if you have a serious problem in your house.
When you have a confirmation that you indeed have a problem with it growing at home, you need to remove it right away. Basically mold can only grow freely if the humidity level in the house is above 60% so as a first step to remove it is to try to lower the levels of humidity at home. Try to keep dry all the places that might have water, such as the plumbing leaks, water leaking in the basement and similar. You can also get a good dehumidifier that is Energy Star rated which will help also save on your electricity bills. However to effectively remove the active mold from your home you need to call in a mold remediation expert who will know exactly what to do to get rid of your imminent mold problem. Usually a professional in his field will have many years of experience on getting rid of the mold and while you can certainly do a few things on your own, the way the mold is spreading, it will be quite difficult to achieve 100% results without extra help. Once it is properly removed, you can then maintain a right level of humidity below 60% in order to avoid getting this nuisance again in your home.
